Online Business Progress Report: April – June 2010

As I predicted in my last progress report I have been so busy building up the business lately that I have had to keep delaying the writing of this update.  I have been very busy the past few months adding content to my sites, learning about link-building and article spinning, as well as researching some new niches.  My efforts have proved fruitful as I am now starting to rank for some keywords, and have also begun making Clickbank sales.  One of my niches has a huge long tail and I went a bit overboard, adding about 90 pages of articles to my website to try and take advantage.  I now have 3 affiliate websites live and steadily rising in the search engine results as I continue my SEO efforts.  I have found Market Samurai to be an excellent tool for tracking my rankings for target keywords, and thoroughly recommend it to everyone.  Over the past month I have also researched some more niches and have 6 excellent new domain names to build websites for.

During April and May I took to the road for a while, travelling around Malaysian Borneo.  I had a great experience travelling and simultaneously working on my online business.  I have written a detailed post about my remote working experience in Malaysia Here.

My goals for the next few months are to continue building links and writing valuable content for my existing websites.  I can see a lot of article writing and spinning coming up over the coming months as I continue to distribute high quality content to article directories and web 2.0 sites.  Rapid Rewriter has proven to be a wonderful article spinning tool and I strongly recommend it. I also want to build 4 new sites of at least 10 pages each before the beginning of September this year.  I am heading off to the Philippines for a few months in September to do some volunteering and it would be good to have the new sites live and indexed with a few links before I go.  I don’t think I will be doing much work on my sites while I am away, so I plan to send some spun articles to Article Marketing Automation. before I leave in order to drip feed a few links back to my sites over time.

I return to the UK at the beginning of December, at which point I will take stock of the business and decide how best to take it forward.  Initially I will revisit all of my websites and see how best to improve them, link building, adding new content, and tweaking the design and layout of the sites as appropriate.  I also plan to start building email lists and using Aweber to automate the sending of emails to subscribers, hopefully building a long term relationship with some customers.

Once I have completed all of the tasks above, I will have roughly 10 websites online.  At this point I will begin my adventures into pay per click advertising and outsourcing, while also building a couple of new websites.  I will have to see how website revenues are coming along before I make a final decision, but at the moment I am thinking of taking a full time job again at the start of 2011.  This will mean that I can reinvest all of my website income back into outsourcing article writing and spinning, and starting out with pay per click advertising.  This will speed up the growth of the business while also giving me a decent full-time salary.  At the moment I am thinking about contacting some local web design and SEO firms to see if they need any new staff.  I am actually quite looking forward to the prospect of working with other people for a while again.

So I have lots to do and much to look forward to over the next 6 or 7 months.  I will write another progress report in the near future documenting how I have been getting on.

    Hey Rodderz,

Thanks for teh tip on Rapid Rewriter. So far I like it, although I don’t like how it turns capital letters to small letters and makes me go back and adjust them manually. That’s a huge time-waster. Do you know any tricks to get around this?

My first spins were only using synonyms but now I see how to do it with full sentences so I’m getting onto that. Once an article is written and spun with a variety of options for each sentence, it’s easy to see how it works. Do the work once and I’ve always got a place to come for a unique article on whatever the topic was.

What I really like is that it gives me a place to store articles. In the past I’ve had things scattered all across a bunch of Word files.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will let you know how it goes. Nice blog, by the way. Have you had any earnings yet?

    Kirsty

@Kirsty – thanks for stopping by Kirsty, I have followed your progress for a while now and have found your blog really inspiring. Regarding the capitalization issue, I just do it manually as well. It is a bit of a pain in the backside but I haven’t found a way round it yet (although I have to admit I haven’t really tried). I will send Matt Carter (the creator of Rapid Rewriter and Backlink Blueprint)an email and see if he has any suggestions. He’s is a really nice guy and his support is excellent. Il let you know what he replies.

Thanks for your kind words about my blog. I am yet to make much money from the working vagabond blog itself as I have done pretty much no SEO and only get a trickle of traffic from some forums that I am a member of and blogs that I occasionally comment on.

I have a number of other niche websites that are all rising in the search engines and are starting to earn money (mainly from affiliate sales), and I also have about 10 new sites currently in the pipeline. I am building sites like crazy at the moment, which will be followed by an immense SEO effort on all my sites. Things are really picking up now but my workload is pretty huge so I dont get that much time to post on this blog at the moment. When earnings take off a bit more and all my half finished sites are online I will spend more time updating this blog.
